Overview

You'll be hiking in a very unusual part of Tijuca Forest, one of the biggest urban forests in the world. On this circuit of trails, discover the nature and beauty of the jungle, reaching Taquara Hill (814m=2670ft), a 100m higher than Christ Redeemer, with views to the valley of the forest and the city, in clear days. Visit caves and also coffee farms ruin. After the hike, refresh in a waterfall* (bring towel/ bathing suit). On the route to the park, stop by another summit for pictures and admiring the landscape. The scenery of this tour is amazing with nature and a lot of adventure. You'll also learn the history of Brazil, of Tijuca Forest and everything about the coffee farms of that area, and the reforestation that happened in the 1800's.
*The water flow on the waterfalls varies according to the intensity of the rain.

In the Tijuca Forest National Park, we'll visit some of the most famous attractions like Taunay Waterfall, Vista Chinesa and also do our circuit hike (aprox. 9km=5.6mi) passing by waterfalls, summits and reaching peaks with magnificent views, like the Taquara Castle (814m=2,670ft).

On the way to Tijuca Forest National Park we'll drive by Canoas Summit and it´s possible to see from a distance Pedra da Gávea and Pedra Bonita, that compose a pretty landscape.

Floresta da Tijuca

In the Tijuca Forest main sector we'll spend most of the day. Hiking in a loop circuit deep in the rainforest, well experience all its lush, passing by rivers, waterfalls, peaks and caves and in the end, refreshing in a waterfall shower.

Cascatinha Taunay

Taunay Waterfall is the highest and most famous waterfall at Tijuca Forest Park. Before starting the hike we'll stop by to see its beauty, feel its freschness and take some pictures. (swimming in this waterfall is not allowed but after the hike we visit another fall where is possible to shower).

Capela Mayrink

We'll drive by this charming, small and cute little chapel, built in 1850, when the Tijuca Forest was a coffee farm.

Vista Chinesa

This is considered one of the most beautiful views in Rio and one of the few places in the city where you can put Christ Redeemer and Sugar Loaf in the same frame. It's not located in the same sector of the park where we'll do the hike but we'll stop there on the way to check the view and take some pictures.

Wonderful Tijuana Forest Full Day Hike

A bit of a cooler day today in Rio which I was so glad. Alex the guide is great - plenty of knowledge on the botanical aspects of the forest and also Brazil history too. Lots of knowledge gained on the local fauna.

I may have thought I wouldn’t make it but there was no pressure to speed and plenty breaks and stops when needed as the tour was 13km round trip and elevation of 850m. Alex was very supportive.

Definitely recommend this tour - you won’t be disappointed.

Fantastic hike

The hike in Tijuca forest was a highlight of our stay in Rio, hands down. Our guide, Riccardo, was all charm and courtesy. He showed us best parts of the forest while taking least visited and most beautiful trails. The hike was both a bit tough and very rewarding, we returned very happy indeed having experienced one of our best days in Rio. Thanks a lot, Riccardo and jungle.me!

Great hike and guide

Amazing hike with a spectacular view at the top. Our guide was excellent, speaking great English and informing us of all the history and geography of the forest.
The hike is not too difficult as long as you wear good shoes.
Make sure you go in the waterfall at the end!

One of a kind experience

The experience was one of the highlights of my trip to Rio de Janeiro. Tito was very informative and his English level was very good. He gave us some very useful tips for our trip in Rio de Janeiro. At the beginning he made a brief presentation of Brazil’s historical background and culture and then we began a ten kilometer hiking which lasted for about 5 hours. The trails we followed were not very well known so we did not encounter other visitors . At the top of the hill we stood before two sublime views . The hiking required a good fitness level as it also included some climbing. Overall it was a great experience which I totally recommend.

Amazing tour and tour guide

Tito was an caring, excellent and fully informed tour guide. He talked about history, nature and life with a good sense of humour, his English was very very good. The tour itself was great with incredible views and challenging but not undoable. We would have loved to have another view point or highlight beside the ones that very already offered.
We would definitely recommend the tour with Tito!
