Ipanema Farmer's Market

Each morning farmers set it up on a different street.
These are the places where the locals go to do their grocery shopping, and tourists are welcome to walk around the several stands sampling fruits, street food and vegetables offered in the market. The fruit in Brazil really taste different. More than once I had people telling me “So that is what mango is supposed to taste like! I feel I’ve been cheated all my life…”.

Santa Teresa

This picturesque and well preserved colonial style area born in the mid-1800s is now an artsy neighborhood full of bars, cafés and good restaurants that offer a myriad food options including the best Acai and cheese bread in Rio.
The place offers great photo opportunities with its painted murals, street art, cobblestone streets and a variety of souvenirs shops, including the only one in Rio listed on Lonely Planet for having only items made by local artists.

The downtown district is where the famous Selaron Steps are located.

Escadaria Selaron

Selaron’s Staircase is a set of world-famous steps. They are the work of Chilean-born artist Jorge Selaron who claimed that the staircase is his tribute to the Brazilian people.
The steps straddle both the Lapa and Santa Teresa neighborhoods. There are 250 steps which are covered in over 2000 tiles collected from over 60 countries around the world.

Carioca Aqueduct

Also known as Arcos da Lapa the aqueduct used to supply the city with water from the rivers born at Tijuca Forest. Now it is used as a passageway for the tram that connects Downtown Rio and Santa Teresa neighborhoods.

2 fantastic days in Rio

We hired Luis whilst in Rio for 2 days and we are so glad we did.
DAY 1 - consisted of visiting Christ.Selaron, Farmers market, Saint Teresa and the botanical gardens. Luis got us up early to see the Christ, which avoided the crowds. Luis helped us buy the tickets and got us on the train in no time. He left us to enjoy it and let him know when we were ready to go. We then visited the farmers market and we sampled the tastiest fruit ever! The botanical gardens were a treat as we saw two types of monkeys which Luis lured out of the trees with his whistle. Louis knew where the monkeys were as he knew their sound. We visited Saint Teresa, which we truly enjoyed and the Selaron steps were amazing. Luis explained everything about the locations of our visits and was truly knowledgable about Rio and it’s history.
DAY 2 - consisted of a drive to the south of Rio and along the coastline as we wanted to see other areas of Rio, beaches in particular. We relaxed at a small beach for a couple of hours while Luis waited for us to finish. It was great to see Rios beautiful coastline and it’s gorgeous beaches. Luis stopped us at various lookouts along the way.
We felt safe and at ease with Luis. This 2 day tour took away the headache of planning transport to see these places on our own. We wouldn’t have learnt as much about Rio if we saw these places on our own.

We were in Rio with family in September 2019 and had an excellent and very interesting tour with Luis.
+ Easy to communicate before the tour to make the booking
+ Interesting things to see, also things from a perspektive of a local ( Local market,.. )

Luis was a great tour guide who picked us up at our ship and showed us more of Rio than our friends who had tours from the cruise we were on. He was friendly, shared Rio’s history and culture with us plus several of his favorite spots which became our favorites too. Luis is an excellent guide we’d recommend to anyone!
